The panty hose thread is a good example on this - apparently only women with legs that look a certain way and are a certain color are supposed to be "allowed" to not wear panty hose.
One good thing about getting older is that most women tend to start thinking more like this article and less like they HAVE to fulfill someone else's opinion about what they look like

Interesting article.
I've read recently - in a couple places - that men are much happier around pretty women, and interacting with pretty women elevates their mood significantly.
I don't think women are the same, at all - it doesn't elevate my mood at all to have great looking men in the room. If anything, it makes me a tiny bit self-conscious.
So it's easy to see why men have subtly required that women around them be attractive, even women they don't know, and will certainly not be in any kind of relationship with them.
Maybe like when you walk into a bakery and it smells like burned plastic when you were seeking the smell of lovely baking, or you hang out to watch the sunset and it's a crappy one.
It's an entitlement of having the pleasure of attractive women who are strangers to them, that has become a habit in our culture.
Don't try to look "attractive in a delicate way, without being truly beautiful or handsome?"
Is it what they meant?
We don’t owe the world prettiness. We don’t owe anyone flattering dress. We get to wear what we want to wear.
But we don’t owe the world NOT being pretty, either.
I thought the article’s meaning was understandable.
