It is not necessary to dry clean cashmere. I wash my cashmere sweaters in a sink full of cold water and a small amount of mild detergent. After rinsing and pressing as much water out of the sweater as possible against the side of the sink, I roll the it in a clean bath towel and then dry it flat on a mesh drying rack overnight. Dry cleaning is expensive, as you've noted, and bad for your sweaters.
Edit: Just saw your post about buying a drying rack, so never mind. Enjoy your sweaters. Cashmere feels so incredibly nice against the skin! I have a couple of cashmere sweaters, and I wear them as often as I can.
