I am one of those who has 50+ shoes. Shoes can change any outfit and always fit. That's why we have so many. (I don't trash shoes unless the cannot be salvaged.) But I have only a few shoes in the regular rotation. About 15.
I have a couple of male clotheshorse friends, and no, they are not gay. My friend Rich has a shoe collection that would rival many women's. There are a few men here who post a lot about their clothes and shoes. I, on the other hand, like shoes but own about 10 pairs. I don't wear enough different types of clothes to warrant many different pairs.
If we're talking about stereotypes, why do men spend so much money on gadgets? Why do they need the latest electronic equipment or camera or fishing gear? Why do they spend thousands of dollars fixing up old cars?
If women collect shoes or purses, it's just a hobby like men's collecting sports memorabilia or more chrome doodads for their trucks.

Because they're not very bright, or they don't know many different people. I admit, Tim Gunn and the ***** Eye guys reinforce the stereotype that men who like clothes are faaaaaabulous! but my old roommate is a gay guy from Indiana, and he is the most fashion-clueless hick I know. We're talking a guy who actually owns that T-shirt with the howling wolves on it.
Women wear a lot more types of clothes in general than men do. For example, business wear at the office. A man can only wear slacks. A woman can wear a variety of skirts and dresses as well as pants, and the same shoes will not go with each outfit.
Men don't have that many. Most likely 2 pair of dress and 2 pair of tennis shoes at the most. I love shoes on women though especially high heels.
you should be saying, "men i know, don't have that many"
and
i love shoes too, but i'm not sporting a pair of 4" heels at the gym, nor
my adidas with a coctail dress.
