Wash tem in hot water. But the length might shrink too.

It would also depend on the fabric and care instructions. I'd try warm water first and hang dry. If that still is too big then go for the hot water and hang dry. It might be a LOT easier and a MUCH safer bet to have it altered instead to fit correctly. Trying to shrink it on purpose by washing it could cause the article to become horribly misshapen. If it is something you really like and spent a good amount on it........ get it altered.

Hang dry means don't put them in the dryer.

Have you thought of going to a tailor?

What types of clothes are they? Pants, tops, skirts ect..

Instead of trying to purposely shrink the clothes, which can easily destroy the longevity (depending upon the maker), my recommendation is to either alter them yourself or get a tailor to do it.

And with tailoring your clothes (or getting someone to do it), clothes fit and feel better. Not to mention that it shows off those curves.

Leave them in the closet for twenty years; they will shrink at least two sizes.

What are they made out of? If they are cotton and you wash them and dry them in the dryer, they will shrink. It is heat that shrinks things.
If they contain polyester, they will probably not shrink.
