I took it as he was agreeing that 40ish ladies could benefit from some extra weight. She looks like an old hag in that photo. Although, she probably has lived life a bit harder than the average woman.
Holy smokes! All I can say is that we sure all have differing opinions on what looks good.
I agree up to a point - being too fat just makes you look dumpy and old - very thin is not good either - the face looks like skeletor - you need to find a happy medium.
Face shape comes into it also - all my life I had a cute "baby face" but now that I am older I finally have cheekbones and it looks good.
Madonna's face in that picture look pretty danged good for somone in their fifties! If you're concentrating on her sinewy arms, that's what you get when you have less than 10% body fat. OK, I'm guessing about the percentage of body fat she has, but it's probably more like 2% - She needs to eat a baked potato w/buttah. But - she's an athele. And for that I admire her dedication.
Forgot....I know my face looks better when I am overweight. But being overweight makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. I'd rather be in decent shape all over than sacrifice my a** for my face (or vice versa - ).
We've become so accustomed to grossly overweight people, that when an older person, who may be in their 70's or so, is in shape we think they look horrible! I'd rather be thin, because I feel much healthier.

Reason: forgot something
Please, please, please tell me that you don't think she looks good in that picture.
Yes, I sure do. Madonna is what...50? She looks incredible. She is fitter than most women half her age. She's worked out all her life, and it shows.
She is all muscle...and there isn't a wrinkle to be seen.
I have struggled with weight issues for what seems like my whole life. After a serious car accident in 2003, I gained a lot of weight in dealing with chronic pain. After 3 years of trying everything to be rid of the pain, I finally found spinal decompression-which turned my life around and allowed me to go back to a pretty "normal" life. After I completed the therapy, I was determined to take off the pounds--at the age of 47. Dec. 2006-Dec. 2007 I lost 60+ lbs----and I still wanted to lose another 20-30. I was not happy with the fat around the middle. However, at that point of weight loss, I noticed that my face was looking older. People have always thought that I am way younger than I actually am. I was crushed to be finally getting fit and healthy, but to be looking "older"--esp. since I was going to school at the very same time to be an esthetician & electrologist. Beautiful, healthy, young looking skin is what my profession is all about. I stopped losing weight and tried to do facial toning exercises-which actually do help. Now I will try to take off some more pounds, but will probably go at it much slower--and my facial exercises are daily ritual.
I would rather look like madonna than delta burk...
