I have been seeing an ever greater number of High School aged kids who reject fashion and make an effort to look just plain ugly. They wear ugly clothes, wait six months between haircuts, do not comb their hair, do not shave, get fat, sloppy and tacky.
Why wouldn't the average teenager want to do what they can to make themselves look as attractive as possible? Are they rejecting fashion and the concept of beauty because they feel ugly inside?
Personally I'm happy that there are still kids that don't buy into the marketing being shoved down their throats by companies like Abercrombie & Fitch.
I'd don't know why you would think that the kids you deem "ugly" would feel more ugly inside than the "beautiful" ones that spend most of their time trying to get as skinny as possible and begging their parents to buy them the latest trends. Maybe their lives are full enough to where they have better things to do than to look as attractive as possible.
Or, maybe they do feel "ugly inside." In which case I'm sure that being judged and called ugly by snooty adults is just what they need!

They are clueless, that's why.
Lots of times they can get with it because they are young and beautiful.

I have often wondered the same thing, but oddly I happen to notice alot of the adult population doing the same thing and often wonder why. I'm illed in seeing adults dressed sloppy, tacky and over weight.
I'm 44 years old and I do what I can to look good for my wife. I do like my hair long but I wash and comb it regularly. I haven't gotten a hair cut in over a year but thats my choice.
The 90s grunge look is coming back, that's why. That was influenced by late 60s, early 70s, and parents complained about the youth then also.
Longer, shaggy hair is in, beards, ripped jeans, and a general "too cool to care" look which actually takes a lot of effort & care . It's really just a general "rock'n'roll" style.
As far as getting fat, well, that's an epidemic across all age groups. They've probably been raised with poor eating habits & sedentary activities. You see that with very young children too, not just teens.

I am a teenager and I dress presentable when going to school. At my school it isnt uncommon to see kids be dressed up in business attire.
I don't see a problem. The Anti-fashion movement in the 90's was probobly the coolest fashion movement in recent memory (maybe with the exception of the retro/indie fashion that has been popular in recent years- but very few people seem to sport that look, at least around here). Anyways..... I'll take sloppy, long hair, flannel look over the North Face jacket, American Eagle/Hollister hoodie look any day. But thats just me.... I guess I'm a bit far from typical.
