I got an ad in my facebook about some store that sells fresh goatmeat in Bentonville behind the library.

Is goatmeat a popular meat in NWA?

I've eaten it with some of my Indian co-workers when I was still working in the IT world, but didn't think it was a popular meat in the US.

Do you eat it? how do you cook it? I'm thinking of getting some to try to smoke.

i have never had it nor seen it for sale, but I guess it would be like any other dark meat; hopefully someone else will be able to fill us in. No, it is not a daily or weekly staple for people around here I don't think.

There is a significant Indian population in Northwest Arkansas, mostly employed at Wal-Mart. I would assume that goat meat is a staple in their diets.

Cabrito. Mexicans love them some goat. I find it too gamey for my taste.

I like goat meat but I have never cooked it so have to rely on others for that. I have had it at several Little Rock restaurants but didn't think any of them were any good. So if anyone knows of a place that serves it and knows how to cook it I would be glad to know about it.

just saw an article in our Sunday paper about the expansion of the Farmers markets this year. There are no new ones, but many of the existing ones are adding extra days. One of them, I think it is Springdale will have goat meat. SOmeone said it tastes a lot like pork.

I had a taste of goat at a Vietnamese restaurant in Oklahoma City. It seemed to me that I was eating dog and the one tiny bite was it. I couldn't manage anything but that one little taste, which was one too many and I'm not a picky eater.

To be honest I don't think I could eat it. I think when you are raised eating whatever you just do it and don't think twice about it. Then when we become adults, we do add things we thought we might not ever eat, but by the time we reach middle age I think our habits are pretty well set. Like you, I just couldn't eat goat.

A skinned out goat hanging from a tree looks exactly like a dog. My neighbor once had three butchered goats hanging and it spooked the heck out of me as I pulled into his yard.
( I'm not used to seeing butchered dogs, either )

Never had goat until I was well into my 40s. My friend took me into his favorite indian restaurant and ordered a curried goat dish for us that was better than anything I had eaten up to that point. So many flavors and the meat was like eating grisly beef with a lot of bones.

I think the year that the place was still operating, we went back there 3 or 4 times bringing new people with us each time. I believe it was called Goat Kadai and oddly enough, though it was an Indian dish, it was cooked by a Mexican cook.
