I have heard over and over that Fayetteville is becoming a retirement area, but all the demographics I look at has such a LOW population of over 65 y.o. people that it surely doesn't look like a retirement area. What gives?

Fayetteville is a beautiful college town in the Ozarks. College towns are becoming very popular for folks retiring. Therefore, Fayetteville would make a wonderful place to retire.

I've actually never thought of Fayetteville proper as a retirement community and I don't think many others do either. The NWA metro however does have several pockets that are often regarded as retirement focused. Fayetteville is historically regarded as the heart of the NWA metro and as such there is a lot of confusion. When many people talk about Fayetteville, they are actually talking about the entire metro area and not the city of Fayetteville. I'd say this is the case here. However, I think one could be quite happy retiring in Fayetteville proper if so disposed to do so and attracted by the specific amenities offered by the city of Fayetteville.

I agree with Stormcrow, it is the entire area that is very attractive for seasoned adults, not just Fayetteville. The old mayor (I think there is a new one) said last summer when Fayetteville was chosen one of the best small cities in the country, this is reflected in the overall NWA area, not just Fayetteville.

Now that makes sense. The numbers just do not reflect Fayetteville itself as a retirement area at all.

I have never heard of Fayetteville being a retirement community. My son is leaving there for college. Of course with a University there the younger generations are more prominent in the population. If you are looking why don't you check out Mountain Home.

I think they were talking more about the entire NWA area, thoe surrounding Fayetteville, not Fayetteville itself.
