From what I read, is the city trying to market itself as a hipster, hippy, trendy new age kind of small town? I don't find that appeal at all in my opinion. However, the scenery looks fantastic. I never been there before, but willing to check it out.

from the article:

"My vortex tour with Mark Griffon of Sedona Mystical Tours ($135, three hours) – who starts off the morning with a sage cleansing near a stone-circle “medicine wheel” he’s assembled himself in his backyard – is at times uncomfortably intense, as one of the attendees breaks down into sobs during a meditation against a juniper tree called Fred."

I "LOL"'d at that!....

I don't know how the city tourism bureau itself is marketing Sedona (the linked article is not about the Sedona visitors' bureau) ...but I presume it's a mix of the new-age thing along with more conventional tourist desires.....

Two things come to mind when I see the rich elitist people migrating to a city... Boulder, Colorado and Berkeley, California.

My first visit to Sedona was in the late 60s while stationed in SE AZ with the Army.
It's changed a lot since then.
We spent a long weekend there a few years back and it's just not our type of town or people.
Pretty area yes.

Ken: just curious if you noticed ANY vibe at all in the late 60s in Sedona about crystals and vortexes and all that....or was it only art galleries and similar?....I know the vortex thing may've only caught on in the 80s or so.....thanks

I was told by my wife's relatives that are native to AZ for over 100 years that Sedona was settled about that time by refuges from CA that were referred to as hippie types at the time.
I thought that it was a bit strange when I was there on an overnight motorcycle trip from the SE.
Then again, I was rather used to that type of crap as I lived just north of Berkley in CA before my service time.

It has traffic nightmares.I see it as a yuppie new age kinda place. Those pretty rocks make the place an expensive one. I would never live there because of the traffic.
