they are probably no-see-ums or sand fleas but my money is on the no-see-ums.. They usually come out around sunset and bite like all hell. They don't however swarm into houses.

Buy a bottle of honey and start passing them over those bug bites! They should heal up in a jiffy.

What beach were you on? East or west coast? Never even gotten a mosquito bite on the beach in over 30 years. We attribute that to the breeze. Not sure if that is why. lol

Buy bug strips, (the long sticky paper kind, don't know if someone has mentioned this yet) hang them up inside the house for quickly ridding them. Leave them up for a few days, then tightly wrap the use strips in a plastic bag, they'll die off inside. Good for outside too. P.s. you usually can get them anywhere, like; walmart, drug stores, even the family dollars stores sometimes carry them.

Default Bug bites

On the way to the beach you will likely walk thru grassy areas that may have fire ant hills. If you walk too close to their home they will walk on you and bite you. They seem to release a poison that has a life of its own. If you do nothing it can bother you for weeks and leaves dark spots on your skin.
I found a stick that is to be rubbed on bites and works very well. I think it has ammonia in it. I've been told that vinegar is a good response.
No see-ums and mosquitos are annoying but those bites seem to not last very long (days rather than weeks). Again, the bite stick works well on them.
