No kidding. It ranks among the most expensive place in the world. I have been there as a tourist and frankly I would not reccomend living there. Its a tourist city and also very high crime. I would hear police sirens several times a day! You can live at the edge of London or just outside it for far, far cheaper. I have a friend who got an attached terrance(much like a townhouse) for about £120k which would be a little over $200k. I think the costs is about $230 a square feet which would make it not much more expensive than s. Florida.

There are several areas in the USA that are extremely expensive. Much of California(especially the big cities in the south), NYC, Hawaii, north NJ, Chicago and im sure theres dozens of cities in the USA that are extremely expensive, as much or more so than south Florida! I think the top 10 most expensive cities in the USA have median house prices of over a million! south Florida is far from the most expensive. Median house price is $220k for USA, in my county, median prices are like $370k and in north Florida I think its $260k. You can find many houses for below the median, half are below in fact

Still, other factors like hurricane insurance put a real dent in house affordability in south Florida. More than 90% of us cant afford a house in south Florida. People are moving out of south Florida in droves for a better life and cheaper housing, I too am moving out.

Ohhh.. I feel for you, I've heard it's ultra expensive In England. Even the petro. I have family that lives close by but in Spain in a 2/1 flat, not a fancy house or anything... & everything is really expensive there, too - and the taxes (maybe for the medical care?)
The food... I remember a time I ordered a ham & cheese sandwich & it came out to like $30 dollars. It wasn't even spectacular or anything in a regular tapa bar...as a matter of fact it had only one little ole' slice of ham. Can't remember exactly but petro was very expensive compared to here. Anyway, I've cut down on my yearly visits cause it was coming out to like $6000.00 per trip. I'd give anything to talk to my ancestors at least for 5 minutes and ask them how it was then...maybe, same reasons..?? Who knows...though, my family up there wouldn't want to live here in the U.S. at all - to each their own...
The thing I envy in Europe is the way they do the healthcare..my great aunt went in the hospital and & they sent her to different floors to see specialists and she walked out with meds in her hands. Get this U.S. citizens...a pair of support hose for her varicose veins, too - all in the same place! And she didn't pay a penny... Here we have the technology but to have anything solved in one visit so efficiently or cost efficient? Doesn't work that way here...at least for us it's a very, very frustrating experience. My family prays everyday that the govt. step in and do something for the whole U.S.. We have millions & millions without healthcare coverage cause it's too darn expensive.
Anyway, I guess every place on earth has it's pro's & con's.

You can buy a home from $500k on the outskirts of windermere. If you want to live in a newer home in windermere olde town you may have to pay quite a bit more. Homes on the lake run upwards of $2 million and upwards.
There is hardly any crime. I run at 6am in the morning and feel perfectly safe (the only hazard is being eaten alive by mozzies)
After living in Notting Hill Windermer is like a ghost town! After about 9pm its like a ghost town. It does not have any bars or restaurants in its downtown area. I think you may find it a cultural shock after living in London.

I'm not sure this is a legitimate thread.

"You guys think Florida is violent, you should try living in Darfur!"

Pete
I once lived right across the road from Regents Park and loved it there. However, housing was expensive then and it has continued to top the charts. I understand why many Brits have bought more affordable homes in western and southwestern France.
