I don't think "warm" was on their radar if they're also considering the panhandle. Something else to consider for St Augustine in December is the Nights Of Lights event. It's a spectacular time to visit with much of the old city lit up at night with white lights.

Destin! I went this year and will be going back next spring. It's the best beach in Florida (from my experience). It's very laid back and you can get a condo on the beach for cheeeeeeap like 89 a night.
