Terrain? You mean mountains to hump up and down from everyday? 4 seasons? I want 2 seasons in my life. Summer and not quite summer.

Every place changes over time. Places I hold dear in my memory no longer exist and some of them arent in the U.S.

Wait a decade or so and NC wont look anything like it was.

Yeah you know, something other than flat land and mixed shrubbery and mosquitoes.

Mountains are actually quite scenic. Especially up there. Build a house in the mountains, go out on your back deck and see mountain ranges in the back yard. It's quite nice. Of course it doesn't compare to stucco mud huts and retention ponds...but it's close.

That is what makes this country so great. People have so many choices on where to live. So many choices in weather, amenities, urban, rural, suburban, mountains or beaches, whatever anyone could want is out there somewhere. The key is finding a place that makes you and your family happy.

Mountains dont excite me. Many states have them. Never saw the draw, awful to drive through in winter.

You can buy or build a house that fits your lifestyle and needs anywhere in FL. You can install a 2,000 gallon Koi pond with a waterfall, rocks, tropical plantings, make sure you have some Lotus growing, mosquito's hate it and they kill any larvae the Koi dont eat and build a deck surrounding it. Hang out with friends, fire up the grill, sip your favorite beverage. The misting system is keeping the air temperature down in the summer and a propane deck heater is nice on those cool winter nights, your favorite music source is playing on the speakers hidden in faux rocks. Put out some nice redwood chairs, small tables to set the drink and food on. You could have a pool if you like. Heavenly. Grow some Basil, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Garlic plants, Citronella Plants, all naturally repel bugs. Sunny weather most of the year, no snow, no miles of leafless trees ever, beautiful beaches, a wide variety of towns to visit that are unique. Tarpon Springs, Tampa, Sarasota, St. Augustine, Crystal River, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando or the bustle of South Beach in Miami, the Keys. 174 state parks, you can fish in freshwater in the morning and saltwater that afternoon, beautiful rivers for a variety of activities, canoeing, kayaking, tubing, snorkeling, scuba, boating to name a few, forests for hiking, camping and hunting. There are huge theme parks and other amusement venues scattered across the state. Pull some fruit off the citrus trees in your yard. Ah, Florida, good for me but it's not for everybody.

Mud huts? I think that's out west, Arizona or New Mexico perhaps?

No mosquitoes in NC in the summer?

How do they deal with storm water if there arent any retention ponds in NC?

Doesn't looking at the same unchanging view of mountains get old quick?

Ah Spring Hillian - how I LOVE reading your posts! Everything you wrote is absolutely spot on. There is something for everyone here and so much to love. I initially moved here to escape the crumbling infrastructure, ridiculous taxes, and unbearable winter weather of the NE. I could never have imagined that Florida would give us so much more than just warm weather. Everyday that I am here I find something new to love about it. Recently I realized that its stays light out later here. The earliest sunset here is 5:15-5:30ish. In CT, there are short winter days where it actually starts to get dark around 3:45 (actual sunset is 4:30, but dense cloud cover and dark-grey dead landscape makes it seem darker). Nothing green, no flowers, everything ice old and dead. Makes my feel flu-like and depressed just thinking about it. My only regret is not moving down here sooner Thank you for your wonderful post!

Use turn signals instead of just hitting the brakes and turning!

I am pleased to know you enjoy my posts. I am very positive about FL probably because I grew up in NYC. Fall-Spring is depressing there and the rest of it is no bargain either. FL is not for everyone but it fits my needs.

Spring Hillian, you are reinforcing my desire to snowbird. I love fall color too much (probably) ever to move back to Florida permanently, and we have thirty years worth of ties here, but I am looking forward to green, sunny winters.

Wait a second, they actually tap the break while turning?
Nice.
In NY they just turn, no signal, no brakes, no matter what speed.

We know. They're all here now. One guy ran over a landscapers leg last week. What did the driver do. He said "I gotta go to work, I can't stick around." Where was the driver from? NY. Ambulance came. I hope the guy got a big ticket for leaving the scene.
