We are looking to move to FL shortly and have just started a family. We have been advised to choose somewhere on the west coast of Florida. Is that correct?

Our needs are:

-My Husband is in restaurant management so we need an area where there would be work for him
-Looking to be on/near the water
-Family friendly
-Not too small. We currently live in a city of 85,000+ and love the city amenities

Advice and suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

THANK YOU!

Tallahassee is nice, and only a short drive to the water.

The St Petersburg/Clearwater area would be ideal for you. Check out the suburb of Seminole which is very close to St Pete and minutes from beautiful beaches. Seminole has "A" rated public schools and some very nice neighborhoods on the south and west side, though no area is really bad so to speak.

Surprising St Pete

Consider if you move to the tampa bay area you will be constantly sitting in gridlocked traffic, and be pestered everytime you drive.

This was my experience 4 years ago.

The entire Tampa Bay area's traffic is not gridlocked. Like any major metropolitan area (the 18th largest in the country) it's going to have some areas with bad traffic. To suggest all of it is that way is at best ridiculous. To the OP, most of the areas that with perpetually bad traffic are on the mainland in the Tampa area, especially around highway interchanges (like the I-4 and I-275 merge). Seminole and the St Pete/Clearwater area have fairly moderate traffic overall and aren't known for especially heavy congestion.
