There is no problem discussing politics and religion with rational people. We do it all the time with my friends, leftwing, rightwing, evangelical, jews, atheists, you name it. If somebody becomes a dick, that'll be the last time he gets to have coffee with us. Come to think about it, but I can't remember one being kicked to the curb.

How can you not talk about politics? It is interconnected with everything in life. It's like playing baseball without a bat.

Religion is a set of personal beliefs that vary greatly and there is no point discussing its virtues.
Politics is a waste of time to discuss because there is no control over it. No matter who
is elected to an office it is themselves and their biggest contributors who will benefit from it.

We enjoy chats about Aliens, the dawn of society, the thoughts of Kant, Locke, our purpose on earth, also the sport of the season, and new gadgets that we discovered keep us entertained.

Agree with most, but not for politics. Regardless if we do or don't influence (and I think we do, although in decreasing amount), politics has an crucial affect on our lives, current and future. We better discuss it, better understand it, so we can plan our careers, our lives. Many people do.

A New Yorker would not feel comfortable anywhere in Florida. There are just so few fellow New Yorkers down here.

That makes no sense. Many NYers want to leave NYers behind when they move to Florida.

Not many in Naples. I have a few NYC (born and raised) and Long Island (raised my kids) t-shirts that I wear around. Recently there was an old woman (70s) standing on line in Publix also wearing a NYC shirt. Oh, my! Of course, we asked each other where we were from. Manhattan. Oh, you NEVER hear that. We instantly connected with that! She said that people assume that you must be RICH growing up in Manhattan. "I grew up in a penthouse", she said she tells people. ROFL I said to her you mean top floor of a 5 flight walk up? She started laughing. YES. Was the Bathtub in the Kitchen and the Toilet in the Hallway??? lol Thank you, she said to me. Ok, this was back in the 1950s in the West Village, but it was nice talking to somebody who really KNEW what life was like back then. Rich???? lol

When I lived on Long Island for over 25 years, I met a lot of people from Brooklyn and Queens, but never anyone from Manhattan. Imagine meeting somebody from Manhattan in Naples, Flordia!

Surely citizens should participate in the process and know what is involved, it is usually the one with the most money that wins. What is being discussed? It is the election promises that are discussed. This guy will do that and that one will do this for us. They do what they are directed to do by lobbyists and contributors whether is good or bad.

Politics like religion to me are private thoughts. There is nothing you can plan for as a result of an election.

I would say there are there in Naples. We are everywhere. When I was in the service I visited Seoul, Korea. One of the musts of a visit there is to have clothes custom made. I was being measured for a suit and I had said to my friend "After this we just gotta grab some lunch". The tailor stopped and in perfect English asked where I was from. He was born and raised in Canarsie. He was in Seoul providing care for an elderly favorite Uncle.

Great story.......
