One of the prices paid for no income tax. You could register a car in NJ for a nominal amount and pay 3%+ of your income instead.

Eddie, you move to Texas, you pay sales tax, fees, etc. not quite as bad because you don't buy the tag as you do here. But all states have some version of this.
