If you are having trouble relocating to Florida because of the strict rules and regulations I do know some places that allow all breeds and have no restrictions, but the problem is I'm in Jacksonville and not on the gulf! Although I'm looking to relocate myself and I own a staffshire terrier who is 7 years old and weighs about 50 pounds, and the struggle is real. I know you mentioned being on the Gulf is where you prefer but a few complexes that allow them are the courtyards at San Jose in Jacksonville, Avesta Park, and also surprisingly on the southside as well. Another good tip is to look for a condo that is for rent and has a private owner. Good luck and don't give up. There are some places!!!

Hmmm I think you meant to reply to another thread instead of creating your own..... (Looks like your replying to another message)

Anyways welcome to city-data -- lot of places do make a fuss over those breeds,etc....... (I guess for good reason)

Certain breeds of dogs are not just a renters problem. My home owner insurance company sends a questionnaire at renewal time asking if I have one of the dogs listed. If I did, my liability coverage would either increase or they might cancel my policy.

Same here. Just got the annual survey, and dogs were mentioned. Property owners of rental properties have to either increase rents and liability insurance levels or restrict breeds.

It's not so much the dogs that are a problem, but the owners are!

We're wrestling with this issue in our condo association and have about decided to remove the weight and breed restrictions and instead more strongly enforce owner behavior issues. Weight and breed restrictions don't work because owners simply declare their pet is a non-restricted breed ... or start with a puppy-size dog that soon grows to horse-size. If that doesn't work, they get a "service animal" certificate that exempts them from breed and weight restrictions.

We are working to control some of the key behavioral issues of PET OWNERS who do NOT: clean-up after their pets; keep their pets on a leash; control the aggressive behavior or nuisance noise of their dogs, etc.. Another approach is to NOT allow (new) renters to have dogs/pets. This is because renters do not (generally) demonstrate the same sense of ownership and accountability for the rules and property that owners do.

Couldn't agree more and it stinks because I'm a renter for now but have seen exactly what you're talking about.

Additionally, you see people with large strong dogs that aren't trained, and the owner isn't strong enough to keep the dog under control even on a leash.

Agree - you can have a yappy nasty terrier but a Lab isn't allowed due to its size? Silly.
