I live in Clearwater/St Pete and will be visiting Cudjoe this month. First time to visit south of Miami. Looking for ideas of things to do, from quiet to loud!, good places to eat, and anything I might need to know before I go.

Not much of anything to do on Cudjoe that doesn't involve a boat. The Square Grouper is a good restaurant/bar up there and Boondocks isn't far away if you want some mini-golf. Otherwise you're going to have to head down to Key West (~27 miles) or up to Marathon (~25 miles) for any kind of nightlife or things to do that don't involve water.

you could visit the newly operational and seemingly doomed to fail sewer plant that just opened on Cudjoe key. just kidding. there is the sugarloaf lodge tiki bar/resteurant and gieger key marina tiki bar/restaurant close by to visit. the square grouper is also a mighty fine place to get some great food too! if you plans involve doing anything socially after 8pm you will need to go to key west. there is also ft Zack in key west and bahia honda up by big pine. both of them are really great state parks with beautiful beaches.

With regard to restaurants, Mangrove Mama's is just across the bridge from Cudjoe Key on Sugarloaf Key. They have good food, with indoor and outdoor dining available.

Additionally, I second the recommendations above. The Square Grouper is pricy, but has incredible food, and the Sugarloaf Lodge tiki bar has a great daytime view. Attached to the Square Grouper, My New Joint is a popular happy hour spot. They serve tapas and small plates, but I've never had them, so can't comment.

There is good Cuban food at the casual Morita's Cuban Cafe, just a block from the Square Grouper.

1 island north, on Summerland Key, the Galley Grill has a very good breakfast.

Also, I forgot about a relatively new Italian restaurant with good food. Bella Luna is on Cudjoe Key and is open for dinner most nights of the week.
