We just got a pitbull from a breeder and he is only a pup.We are thinking of moving from NYC. It seems that they are banned from Fla. If not, we as a family would never leave him as we are devoted to him. We never realized how many people are frightened of this little guy and at 35 lbs..he is pure blue with blue eyes...we find that people actually shy away from him and he is well trained and a delight. If anyone has any info on where in florida you can live with your family member who happens to be a pitbull please let me know the states. I would appreciate it very much and so would Lefty. Thanks. I don't know what makes you think they are banned in FLA.
I think Dade Cty is the only place.
There are a few threads on the subject.

I believe this has been discussed in Florida, but like Mike said it has not passed in any county except Dade. Here's some info that I found:
Florida Lawmakers Considers Pit Bull Ban
http://www.city-data.com/forum/flori...-banned-2.html
WHERE PIT BULLS ARE BANNED....... A MUST READ!

Here's a petition against banning Pit Bulls:
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/ban-all-deeds-on-pitbulls

I'm not sure what they would do if you already live here and have a Pit. I do know that many homeowners insurance companies (no matter where you live) will cancel your insurance or make the dog be registered and insured for a large amount of money. Most insurers have a list of breeds that are not allowed. I believe Mike has a Pit Bull and might be able to comment on this aspect further. I do know this is a very heated debate on both sides-for and against Pits.

I personally, think it has more to do with the owner than the dogs. Of course any animal you have to be cautious of. Also Pits are pretty powerful dogs-if you get bit by a Pit or you get bit by a chihuahua-most likely the Pit is going to do more damage, hence more hype in the paper.

Right, it's just Miami-Dade where you need to worry - your dog will not be grandfathered in there, so don't move there.

Also watch for individual neighborhood restrictions.

I don't know of any neighborhoods in Jacksonville that restrict pit bulls, but in one of our bordering counties - Clay county - there is at least 1 development that bans pit bulls (Oakleaf Plantation).

So watch for those HOAs that ban pits...apparently it's not illegal for them to do so .

Yes, good point Riveree. There are several developments that ban Pits here as well. I think that might be the case in a lot of areas. If you don't live in a deed restricted community you should be fine in North Port.

Everything seems to be banned in Miami-Dade county. It would be a bad idea for anyone who has an independant spirit to move to that area.

You can have Pit Bulls in most of North Florida, but nobody from NY of sound mind should move there, unless you like what you see when you watch IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT and yearn for life inside a Lynard Skynard album. un-cultured compared to even suburban Buffalo. Central N FL is sort of 'dumbed down' Middletown, NY, if you must go there try Tallahassee or St Augustine areas. At least there's a beach (but it's still Florida). Gainesville is barely tolerable if you can find a job. The rest of N FL ain't worth the swamp it's written on. Beware of places described by term 'Old Florida' and 'Southern Heratage', this is modern code of the still very active Klan.

Funny, I moved here from NYC...call me crazy, but I like it here !

Oh, and while some parts of North Florida might fit your description, there are plenty of areas that do not. I would not live here if it was as you describe.

hahahahahahaha!! omg, I'm laughing so hard after reading this post. Please leave our *dumb, uncultured, ingnorant, intolerable, "old Florida", Southern Heritage* alone! hahahaha! And please stay wherever you are! God help Florida if you live anywhere in it's boundaries. lol
I feel sorry for you. Really, you are just jealous!
