IMO, the locals, who are NOT out circulating like there is no virus, are the ones going to the COVID-19 testing stations. Thus, (unless the local servers, cashiers and service staffs are getting regularly tested), we're not really getting any type of clear picture of the positive testing rate in Florida.
hmm, so you're saying tourists are spreading it to the local population? While this is plausible, i wonder how many citizens have been following the lead of Desantis, who has been extremely blase about the virus.

I don’t think it can be blamed on tourists. That wouldn’t explain the flare ups in other southern states that aren’t nearly as touristy as Florida.

I came across this.

https://www.investopedia.com/financi...n-tourism.aspx

Texas actually makes more money off of tourism than we do as of 2018. However, half of its tourism is generated by its own residents. So, that means that Florida still has more visitors. The visitor numbers of Disneyland vs Disney World may be reflective of Florida as a whole. Disneyland in California gets more annual pass and/or local visitors as opposed to Florida’s Disney World receiving more out of area visitors.

So, back to the virus, I still don’t know if things can be blamed on tourists as travel numbers are still depressed. I believe that Florida’s tourist areas will have to depend heavily on LOCALS in the short-term in order to still be around later on for the visitors.

My theory is that the virus flare ups are based on people being burned out on staying home. They are visiting family and friends outside of the home. While they follow the rules in the stores and such with strangers, they let their guard down with familiar people, and BOOM...a spread.

They had some early studies that said it didn't work in patients with very advanced cases. There was some suggestion it might work well in early stage patients. Some bigger studies were firing up to study this. But the press was badmouthing it because of side effects (note that this drug has been in use for decades), and the studies couldn't find enough participants. They ended up cancelling the study.

So it may very well work. The hatred of Trump by the press is interfering with getting studies done.

I agree. Much of the reason the Southern states have this problem is obvious. Basically the entire Sunbelt region. This one can't all be blamed on tourist.

I soooo agree with this and think you hit the nail on the head! Unfortunately there are some communities where there are a lot of people living under the same roof. A lot of people who I talk to, talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. I constantly hear friends talk about their Mother's Day, Father's Day, Fourth of July parties at their home with adult kids, grandparents, nephews, nieces and babies. It's like they think that they can't get if because it's their family.

I just don't get it...

I go through this every Thanksgiving and Christmas. There is always someone in the family who's sick with something and no one else is concerned about catching it and the sick person always says "I'm not contagious." I'm hoping coronavirus changes this behavior permanently.

you have to look at how many people were tested....when you test 50% more people....you get 50% more positives

7/2.....67,000 tested........9,460 positive.........17.17%

7/3.....85,000 tested........11,445 positive........15.84%
