more...now how many people read these headlines....fell for it...and think the actual ocean temp off Key Largo is 100

...surface temp off Key Largo did not even get to 90....it's 88 right now....normal

"Florida ocean temperature topped 100F"
"The surface temperature of seawater at the tip of Florida has hit hot tub levels, exceeding 37.8C (100F)"
...on and on

this is all a flat out lie....the temp was measured in Manatee Bay...not the ocean...or even on the ocean side

Manatee Bay is the extreme north shore of Barnes Sound...south end of Biscayne Bay...it is no where near the ocean

...very shallow and almost completely land locked

not only are they lying about it being ocean temperature....the 9 other temp gages around it did not record anything even close to that

...a sensible person would be saying.....your temp gage needs to be recalibrated

as of right now....the surface water temp in Manatee Bay is 87F > https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_pa...?station=mnbf1

The more I looked into this the more I agree. It’s not an outright lie, but it’s a stretch to say Mantee Bay qualifies as the sea since it’s more like a lake. Some of the water temperatures have been impressive regardless though, with with other parts of the keys in the Mid-90s and the Gulf Coast into the 90s. Clearwater Beach was 92f last I checked, which is high but not unheard of. The thing is this year is it hit 90f much earlier than usual.

nope....it's a flat outright lie.....the bay is not ocean...they are saying the ”ocean” temperature

...at the same time....ocean surface temperature in Key Largo was less than 90

ocean surface temperature in Key Largo right now is 88F....that is normal

and that exact same monitor in Manatee Bay is showing 87F right now

I noted the news and weather drama mongers on our local NBC affiliate station were breathlessly reporting those 100 degree water temps off Key Largo ( and Marathon, IIRC) a couple days ago. They didn't specify the location of the gauge measuring this temp, naturally. Makes me wonder what else in the way of misleading information the news is putting out there in the name of pushing their "climate change" agenda.

Right now a temperature gauge out on our lanai reads 85 degrees F. It's overcast which helps. Our 15 year old AC system ( on which we discovered a freon leak when it stopped cooling on July 4th) is being replaced by three young men who have taken over the AC business from their dads. They're telling us they think their dads installed the current system when the house was built in 2008. I thought that was pretty cool. It's still pretty comfortable in the house even with the AC off, with fans going.

Thanks so much for this information, Corrie. You're the best!

Thank you

off Key Largo.....knowing that everyone is going to think that's the ocean

here's another snag, it's been raining buckets in south Florida for weeks....they are draining all that hot fresh water...out of the Everglades.... down the L-111 canal....the locks are wide open right now.....and straight into Manatee Bay

look at the map of this temp station....go due north on that map..still in Manatee Bay..there's the drainage for the L-111 canal

I agree. If I take the temperature of my car's engine, and the reading is 225, and if I say that my car's cabin is too hot to ride in b/c it's 225, well that's a lie.
