hi, please excuse my typing as i only have use of one arm at the time being due to today's cortisone shot in my shoulder. i am a senior that wants to leave michigan in the next few months. i am looking for any useful information on moving to n. florida. i am interested in purchasing a small pcs. of dirt with a mobile home or it, or putting a used one on it. i have my home here up for sale and have a few people that are interested. looking for info on property out in the country [sticks] what is a good location as for Minimum government assessments and restrictions. i need info. on requirements and suggestions for well, septic, and any other charges, fees and such. i have a limited budget of 50 to 80 tho to work with. thanks for any info.

You can buy an acre lot that already has a singlewide mobile for $50k in ready move in condition. Look outside Gainsville or Ocala city limits. This is the only affordable means of living in FL. hope this helps.

If you want to live in the sticks, it will be sooooooo easy to get something cheap.
I must, however, have to let you know that a trailer is a death trap during a hurricane and most tropical storms. You will have to take refuge on a shelter (usually a school) when these events happen. Problem with that is that all your pictures, pets, furniture, etc will be gone when you come back.
Also, if you are worried about being burglarized (which if you live near ANY FL metropolitan area - Tampa, Miami, Orlando, Jax, etc - you SHOULD be worried about a burglary) a trailer is not very safe.
Other than that, yeah you can get into a trailer with a lot in Northern FL easily for $50k. As long as it is in the sticks and you have to dirve like 10 miles to get groceries.
Oh, make sure the trailer has A/C, you will be miserable 9 months out of the year without it.

I disagree, you are safe in mobile, in those areas, anywhere you live there could be crime. No matter where you get mobile, just check out area, I would not move in area where farmer pickers live etc.

Oh sorry, I just read the OP's budget. $50-80k I'd avoid Florida, because yes of hurricanes, and the fact that you can probably get a regular home somewhere else for that price, although your options are limited. The nat'l avg. home price is about $230k, so $80k is obviously not mansion material. However, you can find something, somewhere.

We are looking to move to the Clearwater area. How are mobiles there? I already understand the Hurricane issue. Are there some affordable parks?

The problem with Clearwater is a lot of the mobile home parks are being sold, so if you decide on Clearwater, Largo or Saint pete, make sure that you will be able to stay and the owners will not sell the property out from under you , not fun trying to relocate with a mobile home.

What about mobiles with property option
I'm assuming with a mobile you will want to go with the land option so it can not be sold out from under you? How close are some of these mobile parks to the beachs? How is the job market in Clearwater, (i'm in the AP/AR business). I'm not looking for an executive position just something to bring in 12-15 bucks an hour until we get established. We're looking to start our remodel business again in FL like we have in Texas and Wyoming.
