Where are the hip/modern/cool safe places to live in?

I will be working all over Daytona.

hip, modern, and cool? Daytona doesn't exactly meet that criteria. Maybe you would like a condo on the beach?

I don't really think there is a hip/modern/cool place in Daytona. As for safe places; check out Port Orange or Ormond Beach areas. Still close to Daytona but far enough from most of the crime .

Ormond is, by far, the most sophisticated area. "Hip, modern & cool" depends on your definition of those and what you're into. This isn't South Beach. There are some pretty "cool" clubs on Beach Street downtown Daytona and on Seabreeze Blvd. beachside Daytona, but you wouldn't want to live in either of those areas. Ormond has some upscale shops & restaurants and is very safe. Port Orange is more family-oriented.

Good Luck!

You are better off living in Lake Mary and commuting to Daytona. Lake Mary is very sophisticated and you will have better access to Orlando nightlife and cultural events.

Listen to the other members, Daytona is not a safe place. It's a big tourist trap also, ok to visit, then leave.

And you know this.....how? You've lived here? You've lived in Daytona, Ormond & Port Orange?

Perhaps people living in Florida would be better suited to respond?

ChrisA is right, Daytona is not a nice place - it has a "carny" atmosphere, not sophisticated or safe.

Thanks Gypsychic. I know what I am talking about being that I lived there in Florida for many years, and lived right in Daytona. I never felt safe at the property I lived in, I was in a 1st floor apt, then asked for a second floor apt so I didn't have to worry about idiots trying to get in. Or perverts trying to get into my daughters window. Daytona beach is all hype, it is no better than any of the other Florida beaches, except you get to park on it, WHOOPEE! I would rather go a little south of it and go to New Smyrna Beach(nice family beach). Or north to Palm Coast of St Augustine Beach. I don't see any sophistication in Daytonaat all, Sarasota - yes, Miami-yes... When I think Daytona I think bars and drunks, Nascar twice a year, bikers, rowdy college students, tourist t-shirt shops. Daytona has a crime rating 3 times higher than the national average. And 3 times higher than the Florida average. I did not like it there...
