It was in our paper yesterday that the state budget will receive a 350 million dollar windfall. It seems this money was budgeted for an anticipated increase of 50k students statewide. Instead there was a decrease of 3500 (I believe these were the figures quoted).


They said this hasn't happened since the early 80's..!

Public school enrollment in Broward has been dropping for the past year or two. It might not be such a bad thing. Class sizes are huge, most of the recently built schools already are over capacity, and a lot of students are being educated in portable classrooms. If enrollments keep falling, the strain will ease somewhat.
