I AM BEING TRANSFERRED TO DAYTONA LATER THIS SUMMER. I AM SINGLE MALE, MIDDLE AGE, NO KIDS. WHERE IS BEST AREA TO LIVE? LOOKING FOR A CONDO OR TOWNHOUSE AWAY FROM THE TOURIST AREAS. PORT ORANGE? SOUTH DAYTONA? I NEED TO STAY WITHIN ABOUT 15 MILES OF DAYTONA AIRPORT.

Been living in South Daytona for 20 years. Depending on your price range, best condo to live in is in Port Orange. There are several, but I can't remember the name (I moved to NC last October). South Daytona is not that bad, but there aren't any condo left.

You have so many options depending on what you want to pay for rent.
Oceanfront condos for $1200 or an apartment complex for $600. Or anything in between.

Almost everything in Daytona is within 15 minutes of the airport. This is not a big city.

I think Ormond is a more desireable area, especially for singles. Port Orange is newer, more family-oriented.

My parents live in Port Orange and I have been staying with them for two months. I like the area. I would look there or maybe Ormond Beach which is on the north side of Daytona Beach.

I have been here a little over a month and like the Ormond Beach area. It is not the center of nightlife but has some great restaurants, shopping. Not too many tourists. Most of them are monthly visitors. It is close to the thngs I need. I found a "reasonable" duplex in a nice area 1 block from the beach..
While I was looking, I had plenty of choices and I am pretty particular, so you shouldn't have any problems finding what you are looking for.

funny but I found the apartment complexes more expensive and mostly older and rundown. The newer ones are ridicoulously priced.

The two nicest places in the area are Ormond Beach and Port Orange. I first lived in Ormond Beach when I moved to the area and we recently bought a house in Port Orange. It's really nice here. I'd go to Port Orange if I were you.

Pelican Bay is nice...
