I am in need of some advice & opinions in order for me to narrow it down...
I lived in Boca Raton and Ft. Lauderdale in the 90's-2001. I moved back home to S. Calif. and since my husband and I are home based & mobile again, we are considering moving to Fl. The state of Cal. is going to the birds and taxes! We are considering renting for a yr. to make sure of the right location. COL is a moderate concern.
I am a little opposed to the idea of living in Ft. Lauderdale even though I loved it in 2001; it seemed much more crowded & congested in '04 when I experienced it for 6 mos. I do love the boating life & atmosphere.
We are in our early 40's and active in sports so, we are looking for a small hip city/town near the ocean. Not too large of a crowded city but not too small or boring. In proximity to a nice city w/the Arts like Palm Beach. Good surfing beach would be nice; my husband has been a surfer (30yrs) and wants to learn kite boarding. Because Florida is ever changing and I may not have my pulse on it anymore, I will list my favorite cities and would love some input; Delray Beach, Jupiter, Juno, Stuart, Sarasota, Naples, St. Petersberg, Tampa & Clearwater.

Please give your thoughts and advice.

Thanks!

All of the cities you listed above are good choices! I am a very big fan of Juno Beach, due to its proximity to Palm Beach, yet it retaining its "small beach town" feel, with lots of preserved area.

Sarasota is a nice little city for lots of things like food, nice beaches, etc., but for surfing you would want the Atlantic Coast, possibly Jupiter?

Visit a few areas and see what is a fit for you.

I live in Jupiter and love it but Juno is nice too...that's a win-win.
