Just passed thru my mind. Why dosnt the I-10 run thru to downtown area of Tallahassee , like the building district of the city. Any reasons from history? Thanks

Simply, the local government at the time wanted to get as many trucks off 90 in Tallahassee and as far away from downtown as possible. Also, the city didn't want to encourage rapid growth. There are other reasons but those two immediately come to mind first.

Give it 20 more years and I-10 WILL run through the middle of Tallahassee!

When I moved here, I-10 seemed like the northern border of the town. These days I don't have to go SOUTH of I-10 unless I'm going to work or a particular restaurant, since there is so much built north of there now - that used to be mostly woods.

You also have to remember that Tallahassee is one of the oldest cities in Florida. It was already built and established long before I-10 existed, so running it through the town wasn't something that would have been easy to do. And as mentioned above, the locals didn't want *that* kind of city.

Interestingly it is the reason so many people who go "through" Tallahassee and think they have seen the city - really haven't.

Why on Earth would you want a highway to rip through your downtown?

In response to the OP, one word...Logistics. Could you imagine the nightmare of property acquisition and destruction to cut an interstate highway right through the middle of town? Who in their right mind wants to deal with that?

I'm glad it doesn't. Downtown wouldn't be nearly as nice or walkable as it is now.
