Just applied for another position with my company, this time in Daytona. I have also previously applied in New Hampshire, VT, and Kentucky. What's it like to live in the greater Daytona area? I have vacationed in Daytona many times, but now looking to relocate with a young child, and one on the way. Any feedback is appreciated>

If you are coming from up north, it's going to be a drastic change for you.
It's one thing visiting for vacation here in Florida, but to live in Florida is a whole other ballgame. If you could, try renting for a while then make a choice if you want to live here as a permanent resident.

There are several threads about Daytona and some of the Palm Coast threads have Daytona/Ormond/Port Orange info.

I think it's nice here. It's much more laid back then places I have previously lived (Detroit metro area and Las Vegas). But it's nice, good weather, great schools (in Port Orange and Ormond Beach), awesome beaches, within a short drive to many family activities, etc.

look into port orange. It's city limits are 1/4 mile from the beach at daytona beach shores. Most of the city is new and it is very clean with almost no hotels or tourist stuff. It is also one of the safest cities in fla.
You are a few miles to daytona beach shores and if you drive up the beach 5 miles you are in the middle of the daytona tourist stuff.

I agree with john.... we first moved to Ormond Beach while we checked out the area and decided where to buy. We ended up buying in Port Orange. It's really nice here... great neigbhorhoods, good schools, close to the beach, close to Daytona for those activities... It's nice....very friendly people. And they are building a big riverwalk area that will be on the river and offer shopping and dining.

I totally agree! Port Orange and Ormond would be the top of my list. For a more affordable choice you might want to check out Deland as well. The commute is not bad and the town is pretty nice. Stay away from Daytona Beach (beach side). The crime is pretty bad and when there are events in town you can not get away from the traffic. Good luck!

Yeah, I was seen a house in Daytona that wasn't far from the beach.....but I didn't think about the traffic during "event weeks"! Good point.
