Why Seminole County only? Last time I checked, Winter Park, Windermere, Doctor Phillips, and Thornton Park/Delaney Park/Colonialtown/Southern Oaks - all highly desirable areas with well-regarded schools - were in Orange County. My sister lives in Oviedo, and that is a decent area of Seminole County, but I am curious as to why you are so strong (the ONLY is in all-caps ) about your opinion.

Southwest Florida is a prime spot for snowbirds from Nov-May. This means a lot of congestion and activities catered towards retires, this makes it difficult when raising children. Traffic doubles and forget going out to eat. When looking at an area, check the median age, some places in southwest florida have median ages of 45-60 and that means not a lot of families.

Good luck with your decision

Polk is not a terrible place to raise your child. Polk is a terrible place to be without an education as this applies to everywhere, including Tallahassee.

I'd sure like to see it. I'm just curious as to what you're referring to.

Default Tallahassee a good place to raise a family?

Hello,
I currently live in Raleigh, NC area and it is beautiful with friendly people and good schools, but I would like to move back to FL for the warmer winters. However, I've lived in Orlando and Tampa, and I don't want to live there again. I am considering Tallahassee because it seems like it is more of the true south vs. Orlando and Tampa. I am looking for a place with southern charm, not more than an hour away from a beach, and place with a good educational system. Jobs are not an issue as my husband and I telecommute for work. I would love to hear your thoughts about Tallahassee.

Gainesville is a nice place to raise a child. The schools are good and there are alot of things for kids to do. It's not a small town but not a big city. UF has some key events that are good for kids.
