I was at the airport in Denver and has a philly cheese steak sandwich.
WOW.
it was sooooooo good.
where can I get a good philly cheese steak sandwich in Portland, Oregon?
You can get a good cheesesteak outside a Philly, but it needs to be made by a Philadelphian....for example, there's a terrific cheesesteak place in Burien, Washington, but it's owned by a guy from South Philly who owned four steak places in Philly. Maybe he got run out of town, but it wasn't on account of his cheesesteaks or hoagies.
I agree. I have yet to have a Philly cheesesteak as good as the ones I have had in Philly. Some have come close, but not the same. There is this one cart downtown in Portland that sells cheesesteaks at lunch on SW 5th. But they dont even have cheese whiz as an option. I cannot take a Philly cheesesteak place seriously if they do not have cheese whiz an an option.
This reminds me of that Fresh Prince of Belair episode when Will gets a Philly cheesesteak sandwich buts says its not the real deal because there is no grease on the bottom of the bag
I've heard that, but I've yet to experience a good one there. I was there almost 20 years ago and couldn't find one I liked. Well, I didn't have much time, so I was only able to try 2 spots. I was not impressed and was absolutely crushed! My favorite Philly is in Maryland. I have yet to come across one that even comes close. One of these days, I'll either make it back there or to Philly to try again. How I found the 2 places that couldn't make good ones is beyond me.

The problem with cheesesteaks outside of Philadelphia is that the people cheap out on the meat. The great places in Phiadelphia use great meat as opposed to processed beef like "steak-umms".
When we make them at home, we use NY strips sliced micro thin.
