Dublin Dr Pepper Is No More (http://www.myfoxdfw.com/dpp/news/dublin-dr-pepper-is-no-more-011112 - broken link)

I just had a 24 pack over the holidays.

Dublin Dr. Pepper has been around for 120 years and big corporate took em out.

Very disappointing.

More than disappointing. I'm getting a list of all products made by Dr Pepper Snapple so that I'll make sure not to buy any.

Bad as the whole New Coke fiasco as far as marketing decisions, in my opinion.

I understand that they violated their franchise agreement by using the "Dublin" name, but I think it could have been handled a lot better by removing the Dublin name and continuing to make the cane sugar version in bottles as they have always done. A bit of an overreaction.

HEB stores in Texas have been, for more than a year, marketing cans of cane-sugar soda under their store brand. $3.00 a 12-pack, they have cola, rootbeer, orange, big red, and a DrPepper knockoff. HEB says the products are made under their own formula, in Texas, but they would not tell me (proprietary information) where it is made. However, HEB started making their own root beer in San Antonio in 1905. It is possible that Dublin is filling HEB orders, since Dublin had claimed to be the only DrP plant that still had the technical equipment to make cane-sugar beverages.

Dublin DrP and HEB's cane-sugar soda cans both have what appear to be identical markings stamped on the bottom, with best-by date in the same format and the code letters TBC. The markings and codes are significantly different on HEB's regular sodas.

That article is confusing. So they are not making it, but they are? Or maybe they will still be producing the cane sugar version, but since the bottling will be identical to reg dr pep, you won't be able to tell?

Strange stuff.

If there's a chance we can still get it under another label, I'd sure like to know what it is. But what a disappointment that the folks at Dr Pepper/Snapple have made a mountain out of an apparent molehill. Some people have too much time on their hands.

Case, in your Dallas area, HEB has a store at 5750 E Lovers Ln, Dallas, TX, which also used to stock Dublin DrP, They will have the store-brand cane-sugar generics, including Dr. B, which is the Dr. Pepper knockoff.

OK I am missing the whole controversy thing with this topic. Is it a different recipe or do they just use cane sugar instead of HFCS?

Hmmmm.....I've been able to order Dublin Dr Pepper via the internet for many years - so this was nothing new.

I understand Dr Pepper's position on this - but why ruin a great following by Dr Pepper fans?

Thanks Cadbury/Schweppes for ruining a great brand
