What are some of the ways you all cook cabbage. I am Jamaican and we cut it into shreds, put a little oil in the pot and add some water and steam it down with a lot of seasoning, like onions, thyme, garlic and tomato etc. Sometimes we add sliced sausages to it but I am looking for some other ideas. If we put meat in it then it becomes a main dish but often time it is served as a side. I love cabbage and welcome all suggestions.

Shredded in coleslaw, in dishes like corned beef and cabbage.

Is sauerkraut cabbage? If so, I like that on hot dogs and reubens.

I love cabbage. I like it in big shreds as cabbage salad (not always same dressing), and I like it in big shreds cooked Chinese stir-fry style. I prefer it with bite to it.

I had St. Patty's Day early last night and sauteed my cabbage with olive oil, fresh garlic, onion, and salt until it was softened. That was really good, but honestly I'd have preferred it crunchier.

A modified 'rolled cabbage' recipe:

Cut up cabbage and boil in water till soft, drain.

Create a tomato sauce base (diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, seasonings)

Add a couple of cups of cooked rice

Add cabbage ... let it all cook together for a little while.

I love cabbage as mentioned above stir fried with a little bacon drippings too. I also love it just cut into wedges and steamed until crunchy in the middle and then buttered. We have a gadget that drops down into a pot that we use to steam it so it does not get into the water and get boiled. I think steaming might keep more of the nutrients in it. Just bought three heads.

10 quarts of my homemade soup, no matter what type, always gets a full head of shredded cabbage an hour before turning the fire off.

Cook pork chops to done in a skillet, cover with shredded cabbage and cover. Cook until well wilted. Deglaze pan with wilted cabbage and, if needed, a little white wine.

I always use cabbage in my vegetable soup and shredded cabbage in fried rice and of course, cole slaw. I sometimes make cabbage fried with bacon and onions. I like it steamed with butter and salt and I like Colcannon (cabbage mixed with potatoes).
