Is this safe to do? I rather not burn down the house.

yes, in fact you can get the aluminum foil for grills, the only problem you will not get any grill marks....Hubby used it all the time on our free standing electric grill as long as it isn't something we want the marks on, like streak.

Absolutely. Wrap onion slices and sliced jalapenos drizzled with olive oil and garlic salt in foil, put in GF and let cook for a while. Yum.

I clean my George Foreman by turning it off first, than I put four or five wet paper towels on it. Close the lid, go eat dinner.. come back, wipe it out with the towels, use two more to get the grease out. Works like a charm.

I don't have a Foreman, but I do have a Breville pannini press that works well as a contact grill. I HAAATE cleaning it, and always wish it had removable plates. I'm going to use that paper towel trick.

the paper towel trick sounds great. I will tell hubby. On our little table top (sick counter top) one the grates do pop out. I just throw them in the dish washer. but the large free standing one is what we use most of the time. Hubby absolutely hates cleaning it. He will sometimes let it sit for a day or two. Now, we have a new trick, hope it works for him.

I thought it was unhealthy and potentially dangerous long term to cook with aluminum as particles will be digested and have risk for related heavy metal illnesses.
