bringing cheer to lobster-loving consumers at the start of the
state's tourist season but gloom among lobstermen.

Retailers have been selling small soft-shell lobsters
in the Portland area for an unusually low .........

My main problem with lobsters, no matter how cheap they are, is that they're basically just an undersea version of the cockroach. And how many people are lining up for a tasty snack of fried roaches (there are billions of 'em; they ought to be REALLY cheap!)

I agree but my girlfriend really loves lobster...that said, Before the 1800s, only the poor—widows, orphans, and servants—ate lobster. There was even a law forbidding prisons from serving lobster to inmates more than once a week, since it was considered cruel and unusual punishment.

There is a reason that God put things like lobster, squid, and octopus out of the reach of mankind and made chickens, cows and pigs real handy.

For the hassle, they're still not worth the price. You can keep 'em.

If I recall correctly; Maine has at least four or more different prices for lobsters. The lowest price is for lobsters with soft shells and one claw. Going more expensive you have soft shell with two claws, hard shell with one claw and hard shell with two claws. I think they also charge more for larger lobsters?

When I go to the seafood store or grocery store in PA; lobsters are lobsters – there is no distinction between size or soft or hard shell.

The hard shell lobsters are lobsters that have filled their shell and are ready to shed. The soft shelled lobsters are in their new shell and have room to grow.

I have always been told that the best eating lobsters are the soft shelled and no bigger than one and half pounds.

If you have never eaten lobsters ... you don't know what you are missing ! ! !

I would take a properly cooked lobster, over a good prime steak any day ! ! !

I hope we see the cheap prices in Maine "trickle down" to the rest of the East coast. I can have my lobster pot boiling in 30 minutes.... bring them on!
