Ranch Dressing Thickens Up, Takes on Ketchup - WSJ.com
Hidden Valley Foods is after your burger, fries and wings.
A new thicker, creamier version of its famous Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing has arrived in a bid to get people to use ranch like they do ketchup.
The company isn't making subtle comparisons. "The New 'Ketchup'" proclaims the label. It is affixed to a "retro-style" ketchup bottle to signal, "hey, this is ketchup," says Jon Balousek, vice president and general manager for the food, charcoal and cat-litter businesses at Clorox Co., which owns Hidden Valley.

Incidently, here's a recipe for making Ranch dressing/dip from scratch and some product reviews.
Taste Test: Bottled Ranch Dressing | Serious Eats

I was looking around the web and read someone saying they used Ranch as a dip for pizza. That did not sound good to me. I wondered what you guys think about it. Figured I'd ask.

I'm of that opinion. Awhile back there was a good article circulating: The "Ranchification of America." I've seen people slather their pizza with the nasty smelling stuff.

I like ranch dressing but I love ketchup and will put ketchup on just about everything. I only use ranch to dip chicken fingers and raw veggies.

Ranch made from scratch, sure. Stuff you buy bottled at the store, not so much.

I wouldn't say it was new, because many casual dine restaurants and steak houses have served ranch with fries for years. Many restaurants have appetizers that are steak fries topped with ranch dressing and then other toppings like bacon, green onions, etc. And I have enjoyed baked potatoes topped with ranch for years.

I love ranch dressing, but hate the smell.

I would say, though, that sriracha is the hipster ketchup.

I discovered Sriacha in a Thai restaurant about 18 years ago. Been a fan, ever since. I been a hipster for a long time, LOL.
