My milk buying habits have changed in the past few years I see. I buy half and half every week or two, heavy cream once in a while, and only buy milk for specific things.
By the gallon, usually 2 a week for wife & I. ONLY whole milk, cannot stand that 'white water', ie. 1 or 2%. I've never understood why someone would drink that crap when whole milk only contains 3.25% butter fat and taste a lot better.
1/2 gallon of organic whole milk for the kids
1 quart of heavy cream for me
1 quart of half and half for my breve lattes
1/2 gallon of Knudtsen's buttermilk once in a while
Sometimes I get those little drinkable yogurts for the kids
Used to buy 1 quart kefir but they only carry the sugary versions lately
Table cream for enchiladas suizas or cream soups
Sour cream (Daisy or Knudtsen's, full fat only) for Hungarian dishes
I hardly ever buy milk. I use 2 plus gallons per month of 1/2 N 1/2 used for coffee.
What I do if I need milk is cut the 1/2 1/2 n 1/2 with water. If I get in the cereal mood which is hardly ever I use 2%.
When the chocolate milk craving strikes I buy chocolate rice milk. Occasionally I purchase goat milk and buttermilk.
I tried soy and almond milk and couldn't stand it.
When the holiday baking season arrives I use dry milk and make it stronger than the directions call for. I've been told my cakes etc are excellent and how come when (they) make my recipe, mine tasted better.
I rarely buy milk, just for the occasional cereal I buy. I get the smallest size I can find because I just don't go through it fast enough.
