I never put them in the dishwasher even though I think the newer pans say that you can. Teflon is just so easy to clean that even I don't mind washing them.

There was just a thread on this a short time ago...

The manufacturers say it is absolutely fine to put them in the dishwasher.

Well, of course manufacturers will say so, otherwise people would not buy it.
However in practice most of us noticed that dishwasher detergents generally are too harsh for most nonstick cookware and kitchenware, and will eventually cause the finish to wear off. So, I understand why is so "absolutely fine" with them.
Bakeware that has scratches in it may also not dry completely and could rust.
Also consumersearch does not recommend to wash them in a dishwasher:

Yes, we had a thread about it:
anyone wash their teflon pans in auto dishwasher?

I never use Teflon pans. A well seasoned iron skillet works just as well and does not release any dangerous gasses. Research Teflon and birds. Plus- I get iron in my diet from the pans.

See the other thread where I explain this urban mythology in more detail... but basically a well seasoned iron skillet will outgas at high temperatures and kill your birds too.

I don't use them for a lot, but for eggs they are great.

And they also offer warranties, so that if the finish fails under normal use... including following their cleaning instructions to wash in the dishwasher if you wish... you can get the pan replaced. I've done it!

Here's what DuPont says about their non-stick coatings:

Quote:
We wouldn’t be doing our job if you couldn’t put all of our nonstick in the dishwasher. While dishwashers are perfectly safe for our nonstick coatings, you should always check the manufacturer's care instructions to make sure the pan itself is dishwasher safe.

Dispelling the Myths About Nonstick Cookware Coatings
See what I mean? If a line of cookware recommends not using a dishwasher, and there are a few, the concern is not with the lining itself (which is chemically inert and does not react to harsh chemicals), it's with the exterior finish of the pan, which can discolor or fade. Plain aluminum turns dark.

But it mistakenly says " Like most nonstick cookware, these pans are not dishwasher-safe, but editors say they clean up easily by hand,." which is simply not accurate. Most non-stick cookware lines ARE dishwasher safe. And the examples they gave of the coating flaking off had nothing to do with dishwashers. And finally, as I said earlier, if the finish gives out before the warranty period is up, get it replaced under warranty.

Well, my stupid expensive Bosch doesn't really have room for most pot and pans, but when I can fit them, I think a dishwasher burns the baked on grease off the underside of my pans.
