So now the tables are turned! (pun intended).

Restaurants are now reviewing customers and sharing this info.

Restaurants Can Now Give You Bad Reviews

Are you a difficult diner? Sure, none of us like to think we are, but if you ask for substitutions, send back orders, or tip badly you might want to change that, and quickly. Why this sudden call for eater introspection? The restaurants you frequent can now review you.

I kinda like this

because on yelp anyone-even anonymous can rip a business apart...sometimes its kids trying to be funny, saying they find bugs in the food

Well, now I'll definitely be sure not to tip. This is certainly a bad idea and is probably indicative of the treatment people are to expect in the future.

Let's see, I could make reservations in a different name and pay with cash.

Make your reservations via telephone with first name only.

I'm wondering if this doesn't violate some type of Terms of Service or similar web user agreement.

Having owned a cafe, this is not a great idea. I used to simply go out and talk to the customer if there was a problem and if I felt the customer was wrong, I'd respectfully ask them to not return. Not a big deal. Their review, if they posted one, wouldn't hurt us. Smart and savvy diners see through most bad reviews.

Now, if there was one of these for customers who didn't tip delivery drivers, that would be a keeper.

Its fine if its kept within the internal system and members and used positively as a way to enhance experience as opposed to just getting back at bad yelp reviewers.

I don't think this would really apply to anything but a very high end restaurants in a big city like NYC, where the same people are making reservations at the same inner circle of exclusive hard to get into restaurants on a regular basis. I can't imagine a regular restaurant in some suburb looking up every single person who calls to make a reservation before they make it.

I think this is awesome. When I managed a hotel/restaurant/bar I'd get people who would go into Yelp or Tripadvisor and write BS slanderous reviews in an attempt to either get a discount/compensation, or just because they thought it was cool or funny to be haughty, snarky, unfunny liars. They'd get one courtesy message or phone call (if I had their info) before I would post a detailed account of the situation, their behavior, etc. I'd post up photos of trashed rooms, stills or clips from surveillance videos of them causing a scene, excerpts of emails or texts they sent threatening to "destroy me on social media," stuff like that. Nearly all these, slanderous reviews got taken down, and the ones that remained just looked like a business defending its integrity against a childish jerk.

If people had a legit issue, I'd openly apologize and tell them to contact me directly so we could rectify the situation. But the slanderous BS was met with a pretty heavy response. Those businesses were my livelihood and those of my employees and friends, there was no way I was going to let some lying jerk make a dent in it...
