Alright... I tried egg nog. Bought it from the store. It was... ok.

Is this one of those things that you acquire a taste for?

Then I mixed it with port, and it tasted horrible. I didn't have any brandy or rum at the time, but will try next time.

I would not recommend store bought nog.

You have to make it yourself.

Port is wine. That's like mixing together a glass of Merlot and milk. Sound good? I don't think so.

I love eggnog; but it has to be cold. When it starts approaching room temperature, it sounds to degrade (in my mind)

Now hot eggnog? Eww

I've only had store brought eggnog. The best ones seem to come in milk cartoons. The absolute worst....from cans. I always mix rum with mine (unless it's served by someone else without the alcohol...then I'll still drink it...it's still good!).

Agreed. You have to use rum, or bourbon, or brandy.
Port is delicious, but not with eggs or dairy products.
And homemade eggnog is best.
When I read the contents on the container at the store and saw food dye and corn syrup, I said forget it, I'll break out the recipe and do it myself.
I did use pasteurized eggs.
It came out really good, but once a year is enough for that kind of stuff.

Has anyone tried boiled custard? You get it in the grocery stores along with egg nog during the holidays down here. It's tastes like a good vanilla milkshake. I mix mine with Cask & Cream Caramel. Yum! Just finished a glass!

Default Egg Nog

I havent had non alcoholic egg nog since dec.07. It sure has gotten to be expensive. Its about $1.99 for 1 qt. I do like egg nog though & i can get a half gallon for about $2.99 at stater bros . Ill get some this week cause within a few weeks it wont be available again until next nov. It is avail yr round in a can but its not that good & i prefer to buy it cold like any dairy product.

Over the past 7 days, I killed two quarts that I got from Ralphs last week. I love the stuff, but I'm not drinking any more until Dec 25th. I don't like any booze in mine.

I love eggnog, but it's so fattening----and no one in my house likes it. So I'd have to drink it all myself. I haven't had it in years!!

For years and years I made my own.
It involved lots of egg yolks (yes, they were raw) milk, cream, sugar and dark rum.
Then I went on hiatus.
It's not the healthiest stuff in the world.
I made it again 2 years ago and was thinking about doing it this year.
I like a little rum in it.
In terms of calories and flavor, a little egg nog sure can go a long way.
