I'm still working on Christmas ham and made a wonderful casserole with frozen hash browns, chopped up ham, cream soups, sour cream and lots of cheeses
romaine lettuce and baby spinach salad with ripe pear, mandarin oranges, candied walnuts and home made bleu cheese dressing.
chocolate cinnamon sour cream coffee cake.
I just threw some turkey drumsticks in the slow cooker. I also have cranberries boiling on the stove.
Later on I will make a gravy, some stuffing or dressing really as I will bake it in the oven. I have both sweet potatoes and regular ones and am undecided which one I will make for dinner. I also plan on making cornbread at some point today. I figured a nice hearty meal as the weather has turned to freezing rain.
Happy Tuesday!!
they are just starting to catch on up in the northeast, as an alternative to rib eye roasts (prime ribs)
to anyone who has had a sirloin spoon roast
a sirloin strip roast is different than a sirloin "spoon" roast ..comes from a different muscle
I used to do prime rib.......but then heck........there's so much waste... and frankly, I don't need all that fat.
So a strip roast it is now. Plus it was on sale.........I bought a much bigger hunk than I needed, cut it up into a 5 lb roast for Christmas, a 3 lb roast for another time.....and the rest into steaks. I can grill in the snow. I don't care. Never have I paid so little ($4.99/lb) for such a gorgeously marbled hunk of cow.
Non-gluten friend will be over. Rouladen, steamed cabbage with onions and carrots, spaetzle for us and baked apples with lots of pecans. Salami, cheese, crackers for after dinner nibbles.
I made a boneless pork butt in the crock pot and I just shredded the meat and added BBQ sauce. It's so moist. I made a rub of salt, brown sugar, chili powder cumin, dry mustard and a touch of cinnamon (recipe called for it) I used a tiny bit and the first thing I smelled was cinnamon when I walked in the house. I used 1/4 Tsp. Cinnamon tends to overpower savory foods I noticed. The pork is delicious but next time I'll leave out the cinnamon. serving it over rice with some broccoli on the side.
I agree, I don't like cinnamon in meat dishes. I can't use a small enough amount to make it palatable even though I love love love it in stuff like oatmeal cookies and add extra to those. I wouldn't like the brown sugar in that pork recipe either though, so . . .
seasoned grilled chicken, cheesy egg noodles and baby carrots
