My daughters birthday is coming up and she is set her heart on this particular cake. The outer part is going to be fondant as you can see. I am confused what to order for the inner layers and the filling. She does not like coconut/lime/cream cheese flavored cakes. No coffee/alcohol either. She is only 4 years old and we have about 20 kids coming who are in that age group.
I am so confused what to get. Here is what I was thinking:
1. Vanilla cake and chocolate cake as one tire with butter cream layer.
2. White cake with...no idea what.
Any ideas please? I don't want the filling to harden up when kept in fridge.
@Yandex, thanks. I was also thinking that maybe I should keep it simple. Butter cream was my first choice but for the second tire, I am stumped.
@bulldogdad, from next year on its going to be sheet cake. We have a big reason to celebrate this birthday in a very good way. So, I am going all out.
Not keen on yellow cake as I make it ever so often at home
No fresh fruit or whipped cream with fondant. Your fondant will get hard in the fridge so it's best to have fillings that are shelf stable so the cake doesn't have to go in the fridge.
Personally, I would keep it simple, a chocolate tier and a white tier, both with buttercream frosting.
And I don't really think that cake is too over the top for a child's birthday...my kids always used to have a tiered cake for their birthdays, they've never had a sheet cake.

I agree. I hate to say it but with allergies and that many kids, I would just keep it simple to vanilla or chocolate and leave it at that.
I would even have plain yellow or white cupcakes on the side for those kids that prefer just the cake itself. But that's me.
I think it's a really pretty cake. We too go all out on our cakes with simple parties. We did a similar one that was actually 4 layers and themed after pinkerific. That doesn't look over the top at all and hope you have a great party for your little one!
Am I the only one who doesn't like buttercream frosting? Give me "traditional" frosting (that's what my grocery store bakery calls it) any day.
OP, I agree with the others -- can't go wrong with chocolate and vanilla. Why does it need a filling? I think most kids like simple flavors. I wouldn't even put fruit filling in there.
