I suppose this doesn't include all you can eat salad bar like Souplanation/Sweet Tomatoes where the calories you're tucking in from a mountain of spinach is pretty minuscule unless you douse the mountain with olive oil.
Nowadays, I visit a real buffet like maybe 1-3 times a year. I used to go to a Chinese buffet every week for the summer when I was out on audit with my former boss.
Wish Souplantation was around here. Do not like the Chinese buffets. We have Indian buffets around here but it's just an assortment of maybe ten dishes, but I like it because it's a way of trying different dishes without ordering multiple entrees.
Went to Golden Corral once, it was ok but I don't really want to go again.
Not often, and like Dirt Grinder said: I also don't feel compelled to eat everything in sight. Actually I will not fill myself with starches or sweets, but will go for meats, fish, salads and veggies.
Places like Brazilian Steakhouse Buffet, Sushi, Indian, Japanese, Thai, or Mega Buffets are good to find quality food.
No weight problems. I eat little samples and try to put everything on 1-2 plates ( fish-meat or cold-hot ) for portion control.
Many trips using new plates for every dish, topping the plates with fried food, potatoes, rice, noodle and gravy - that's where the overeating/weight gain disaster starts.
we visit buffets a handful of times a year. we enjoy it because we can get a taste of different things we might otherwise never order. we dont go more often because my husband especially gets over full--as do I when it comes to desserts. we dont go often enough for it to cause weight issues.
We go only once every 2-3 years or so and we do tend to pig-out somewhat when we go. We don't overheap the helpings, but we like to taste a spoon full of just about everything.
No weight issues for either of us, because we don't eat like this often. It's a very rare indulgence, so neither of us gives it much thought. If anything, the excess sodium consumption bothers me more than the calories/fat content.
Man, it's been awhile... I really can't remember. We usually go to the other restaurants because DH can get his beer there, even better if it's a microbrewery.
Question comes to mind - has anyone actually been to a buffet that does serve beer?
I try not to but the last buffet I did go to was 6 years ago and it was asian and the food was not good.
