just cook the usual American fare, she will be fine. when she gets tired of it, maybe after 3 days, then she will surely ask your son/you if she can cook Filipino dishes or ask for the nearest Chinese or Thai Resto. Filipinos, no matter how exposed they are to Western cuisine will always look forward for the sinigang or adobo they are familiar with

Cook her a typical American meal. American food is great, and you have tons of choices/regional specialties to choose from. It's always fun to have a typical local meal when you travel somewhere.

I doubt think she's coming to the US expecting to eat what she always eats in her own country.

I'm interested in the fact that everyone says cook the typical "American" fare and I'd love an explanation as to what that is exactly?

I live in L.A. and Filipino food is pretty typical here so to me Adobo chicken is pretty American. Based on where I live I would consider typical American fare to be burgers, sushi and Mexican food. Anyways, I wouldn't go out of your way to cater to your guests. Cook whatever you do well. I do know a lot of Filipinos and they all like to eat. Sure they like their cultural cuisine but I've never seen any of them turn down any good food. You are better off making food that you are familiar with that will taste great then trying to make something outside of your comfort zone

Haha...you have raised a son with Asian fetish?

Just cook her regular food. She might like to try something new.

Or one that lives in Singapore where there are many western companies and most of the people happen to be Asian so if you live there and want to get married and start a family it will probably be with an Asian. Singapore also has one of the most serious food cultures in the world. Singapore cuisine is a melting pot of cuisine of many neighboring countries and it's also a pretty modern westernized country by Asian standards which means they have access to all kinds of food so they probably aren't going to be eating things here that they have never had before. From my extensive travel in Asia and eastern and western Europe I have never had a problem finding almost any kind of food I want if I was in or near a major city

Don't do it. Make shrimp and grits or something like that. Get some BBQ and serve it with traditional side dishes.

Char Siu pork over rice is a Singapore favorite, and it's very easy to make. Satay skewers with peanut sauce is another popular dish in Singapore, as is chicken and rice. I would mix some traditional Singapore cuisine with your family's traditional favorites, so everyone can play on both sides of the fence.
