I guess they are easier to deal with. When I worked at a snack bar, the (real) onion rings, came frozen in a box, in layers one ring deep, with paper between the layers. No pouring them out of a bag like french fries. The coating comes off real onion rings with rough handling.
Indeed--thats why I prefer "Battered" onion rings instead of "breaded", they maintain their cohesion better

Yellow onions/Liver, onions and bacon
Green onions/Tortilla with cheese cooked like a quesadilla in my cast iron skillet, sliced tomatoes and a couple of green onions on the side.
Red Onion/ Tossed salads

I use onions a lot in cooking. And I enjoy them raw with sandwiches.

If you get a bloomin onion, have a lot of people around and eat it fast. They get really disgusting as they cool down.

I like Pearl Onions Caramelized--just tried them a while back. They are good that way.
