I'm trying to find information about what the difference between whole foods and organic foods is, but I keep getting a bunch of stuff about Whole Foods, the store. Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between the foods, and are there real health benefits?
I was just thinking they must be the same. Due to an allergy to Yellow #5 and MSG I often buy all Natural or Organic foods, I don't recall seeing things labeled Whole Foods.
What is nice is I can find things at places like Wal-Mart now...just the other day I found organic pickles...normal ones have yellow #5 in them.
That is my impression. They are as unprocessed, unrefined foods, as close as possible to the natural state. Whole grain breads utilize the entire grain seed. Obviously, no genetically modified fruits and vegies etc.
Organic foods have to pass certain standards, but even that can be tricky.
I know there is an organic collective that has been working together for common USDA standards, but not everyone likes those standards.
cil is right. Whole foods are as close to nature as you can get. Example: brown rice, fruits, veggies, all the natural grains like buckwheat, barley, rye, groats, etc.
In essence, anything that is not refined or messed with in any way.
Natural foods are some of the same, but taken one step further: minimally processed without additives, artificial colors, preservatives, artificial flavors,etc. No msg, trans fats(partially hydrogenated oils) or anything modified.
I have been trying to eliminate some of the preservatives, coloring and artificial flavors from my diet.
When your trying to do this its so hard to find bread...well we have a place in town that has second hand stuff, you can buy, sell or trade...I got myself a bread maker for a coffee table I wanted to get rid of. It would be so easy for me to make up some nice REAL wheat bread, freeze a couple loaves and take a loaf out when I need it. No worries about what the industry has put in it.
That reminds me..i have a break maker collecting dust in my garage. I want to experiment using soy flour since I have a real problem with wheat flour. Whenever I eat anything with wheat in it, I get deep joint pain that almost feels like it's in my bones. Very painful!

Do you have celiac disease? It sounds like that, IF you have that, you must avoid anything with gluten in it...
A kitchen store I used to work for developed a recipe to make bread with rice flour for a good customer who had celiac disease...so I know its posible.
I don't know if i have celiac disease..but most wheat products give me the excruciating pain. I just figured it was a wheat intolerance.
I'll have to check out the rice flour. I have bought gluten free breads before, the specialty brands..and the bread is really yucky tasting and very chewy. lol
So I hardly if ever buy bread anymore..besides, it also swells me up when I eat it.
I found some really great cookies that are gluten free. too bad they taste so good though..they go fast.
