Congrats on your new puppy. Training can be fun too. My dogs are older now but I still haven't forgotten their first time going down the basement stairs. It's still kinda cute being down there and watch them come ambling down.
Cookies: how I wish I could recreate my moms recipe for those lil green Christmas trees with a taste like almonds. I tried it some years after she passed but it just didn't taste the same. My grandmother (my moms mom) had great tasting fudge. Though not cookies. Sure miss that too.
Now, I'll just buy the Scottish shortbread cookies (on occasion); I like the others that were previously mentioned but I'm not the baker of such. More so the buyer. Costco had some samples last week. They had an almond flavor, and were fairly moist but didn't see where to get them, nor the time & $ to get them. It was a quick walk thru with the Mr that day. We were at another of Costco locations with some time and cash but I looked around. There was no one set up that time and I couldn't locate those same cookies.
I just started making and freezing the dough for this year's Christmas cookies today. I try to get as much dough made beforehand so that I have less to do later.
This year I'll be making Cut-out sugar cookies decorated by my daughters, gingersnap, peanut butter muddy buddy, brownie cookie dough, and Viennese Whirls or raspberry thumbprint, I haven't decided which yet.
I usually do more, Linzer trees, Pizelles, and various kinds of fudge, but we're leaving town for the holidays this year so it's changed things up quite a bit and I just don't have the time to do more.
When I was very young, my mother made quite a few kinds of cookies. We kids decorated and filled tins or arranged plates of cookies to take to neighbors. Once my mom made some cookies with a special rolling pin that put pictures on the cookies. Those must have been for adult tastes, but I thought the pictures were neat. By the time I was about 8 and was doing the baking with her, we had narrowed to four varieties: chocolate crinkles, sandies, gingerbread cookies, and sugar cookies. The gingerbread and sugar cookies were fun to make because of the cookie cutters and the decorating. The crinkles were fun to make because the dough was so tasty.
If I had to pick only five, . . . that's more than I usually have. Chocolate crinkles, gingerbread (maybe), . . . and more crinkles. I make gingersnaps sometimes, but just whenever I want to. Those are DH's favorite.

Fun question: I think for me it would be my white chocolate chip cookies with dried fruit in them: bourbon or run balls: thumb print cookies: something with coconut in them and some type of bar. So far I haven't made any cookies but hope to start making a few this Thursday. I have to get some to church on Sat anyway, might as well make enough for spoiled brat to pork out and some for Christmas.
sounds so good. Used to love dates when we lived in Ca and they didn't cost an arm and 2 legs.
