Apples: Sweet or Tart? (cream, Southern, consumers, recipe)

I like fuji & gala. I have only recently started eating apples again. As a child we had about 5 apple trees, & we had to pick them, & then they were stored in a box, in the cool cellar & we ate them all winter long. So between eating so many raw apples & apple pies, as a child/teen, I went off them, as an adult.

Right now my favorite is Honey Crisp. One of the nearby stores has them on sale fairly often for 99 cents/pound. The best thing is that they are smaller than the ones I usually see in the grocery. After that it's probably Gala and Fuji. I like Granny Smith sometimes. The best apple I think I've ever had was a variety called Spartan that I picked up at an orchard. I went back the next week to buy more, but they were out by then. Don't live nearby anymore. It's kind of McIntosh like. I just find most of the McIntosh around here too soft and mealy.

Pink Lady apples are my favorite all-purpose apple for baking, cooking, and eating fresh out-of-hand. I think that i must have eaten at least a dozen out of every bushel that came into work--and that was not including those that I nibbled while I was prepping the apples for various baking projects!

We were spoiled with a wonderful local apple harvest this past fall; while the Pink Lady variety is my favorite, all of the others that I had the chance to eat were also super tasty--including some heirloom varieties.

We don’t hardly ever get Red delicious apples with any taste. I never buy them anymore. I used to love Fiji then i’ve Had some bad of them too. I don’t have very good luck with fresh fruit anyway.

I like tart apples... Braeburn, Cortland, Granny Smith are faves. I love Arkansas Black, but mostly have to seek them out at orchards.

Those are my four favorites, too. I like my apples to be very firm, sweet/tart and to crack when you bite into them.

I like Gala or Fuji. Apples are one of my favorite fruits. Love them with cinnamon in oatmeal.
I also love apple pie, strudel and turnovers.

Winter banana, after proper aging for three weeks after picking, is the sweetest and most flavorful. We had to sell the part of our property that had our winter banana tree on it and the yahoos who bought it, cut down the tree, a week later.
