The last quarter of the year. Even though there's something special about the food of all seasons, I really love all root vegetables and gourds. I could eat pumpkin in some form every day. Also warming comfort foods like chili and cornbread, stew, pot roast, whole baked chicken, anything inside a tart shell or pocket of phyllo dough. Add to that Halloween candy and the treats you snack on when watching scary movies, traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas dishes, New Year's dinners where you don't feel guilty about splurging on the most luxurious foods...it's three months of eating to your heart's content.
Love fall. Time to start converting garden goodies into meals.
Last week I made vegetable garden soup with home grown cabbage, onion, dried beans, tomatoes, carrots.
I roasted the maters
And last night my wife made ratatouille with garden squash, zuchs, onion, maters, peppers, herbs and sauce and a store bought eggplant. It is delicious.
Fall is the best. We're planning our Bavarian Oktoberfest with schnitzels, spaetzle and garden green beans and asparagus.
Not only am I quite envious of your obvious culinary skills, but that you could also get multiple pictures of it on C-D!!! Good on you. Your food looks so yummy!
Farm fresh fruits and veggies late spring through fall and then root and fall veggies (squashes, brussel sprouts, etc) for soups and stews as the weather changes. Eat with the seasons as they say.
The best hams (Morrell) ideally cured, are only available around Christmas and Easter. Even there, they have messed that up so nowadays you have to look carefully in your grocer's cold meat compartment. Chunky ham & eggs. Yum!
I was taught to eat whatever are in season. I listen to how my body feel. During the fall and winter, I definitely want more hot soups, stews with root vegetables and more meats/fat to keep my body warm, and eat more cooked fruits and vegetables. During the spring/summer, I usually eat less in general. I’d eat more raw vegetables like lettuce/herbs in springroll forms, or steamed vegetables and raw fruits. I’d eat much less meats (especially red meats) and eat more fish/seafoods during the warm season.
