Hmmm ... I feel kind of stupid for paying $3.99 for 24 oz. (yes, that's 1.5 pounds) of baby red potatoes at Hannaford.

But they're BABY REDS! I mean, come on, babies SHOULD be more expensive, right?

=====

Yeah, then I started buying plain ol' red potatoes for 99 cents/pound and, you know, cutting them up myself before roasting them with chicken (which is just about the only meat/poultry protein I can consistently buy at a VERY reasonable price). Just checked, they're still that price at my local grocery store (Hannaford).

But wait ... the OP thought that $5 for 5 pounds of potatoes was EXPENSIVE? That sounds totally normal to me -- not any kind of an increase. So now I'm confused.

Potatoes are stupid easy to grow. Several years ago I did a little "guerilla gardening" and planted potatoes along a riverbank and in areas around several local ponds I knew held sizeable fish. Catch a fish, dig some spuds, have a meal. One stop shopping, so to speak. Nowadays I just plant 'em in the backyard garden.

Ha- humanely raised!

Not too crowded? Organic, vegan fertilizer? Spoken to in dulcet tones, daily? Gently harvested?

Thanks for the laugh, and the image!

Folks, everything has gone up in price. Hell, here in Raleigh, Trader Joe's has increased the price of "two buck chuck" from $2.99 to $3.49.

There is a thread about increasing food prices here.

https://www.city-data.com/forum/shop...-holy-cow.html

Not saying that there can't be more than one, but just FYI:

That is a great idea. I am going to have to do that plus some onions at my favorite camping/fishing spot.

I just dug up a row of potatoes I had forgotten about in a garden area I was preparing for planting peas. They were fine except for a few I sliced with a shovel. They survived -2° temps but under several feet of snow last December. Free, except for cost of seed potatoes. I got about a five gallon bucket full.

Get a bulb of garlic to root and plant that as well. Garlic "Naturalizes" well. - Notsomuch to have with fish but small game like squirrels & rabbits.
