I just wish we would have some selection of local (US made) cultured butter that is not super expensive import. I prefer that butter to the pasteurized sweet cream

Check out Vermont Butter and Cream. Sometimes you can find it in the cheese selection, though I am seeing it more and more on shelves.

You're shopping in the wrong stores. At Safeway/Albertson's and similar chains, it's still around that price. Maybe $3.50.

Not here in the Dallas area. Land o Lakes is $5.99 at Tom Thumb (a Safeway/Albertsons brand store).

I buy store brand butter and freeze it whenever they have loss leader sales on it, which they still do from time to time, but less frequently. Last month I got some for $2/lb, limit 2.

I buy the Kirkland (Costco) brand butter, and it has gone up recently. Last week it was $14.99 for four pounds ($3.75/lb).

Butter has been UNDERPRICED for quite a few years. Price finally caught up. Get used to it.

Butter is freezable too. I buy Costco butter in the 4 lb pack and freeze 3 lbs until I need them. It doesn't affect the butter at all.

I freeze it, too. I do a lot of baking before Christmas so I had 8 lb. in the freezer for a while there.

Did I cause the shortage? Butter is used in baking and it has always been one of those things on shopping trips to buy more of......just because. So the frig, ice box, and freezer are rather loaded.
